Pedros Birthday Party

December 9th, 2006 La Encantada, Peru

Peru Six Visits

Today a group of girls from Peru 6 came to my town to buy ceramics before heading back to the States for Christmas. It was a nice visit. I had the artisans go through the 16 step process with them and two girls even tried to form a couple pots themselves. Afterwards they each went shopping and bough many gifts for La Navidad.

Cumpleaños de Pedrito

At 3 o’clock today we had the birthday party for my nephew. He was turning 1 year old. They do parties a little differently here. First you arrive at least an hour to two hours late. Then each kid gets a bag and periodically someone walks around drops anything from popcorn to candy in your bag. We ate jello but not the cake. That is saved for when the kids leave; they each get a different surprise bag and a piece of cake to go. There was also a piñata but not the kind that you smash with a stick. You just pull on a cord and the insides spray everywhere.

After Party

All the kids left around 6 and then family members from both sides came and celebrated the evening with us. There were about 20 of us, mostly family but some friends. We ate turkey capus, which is a method of cooking it in the ground that makes it real tender. We danced and sipped on beer until about 1am. When I get back you should see my cool beer opening tricks. No need for an actual beer bottle opener around here.
